Live Online Literacy Practice Modules

Live online course modules provide teachers with the tools and strategies to enhance their teaching practices. Heinemann's instructional coaching team will guide teachers and instructional staff through a curated series of 60-minute interactive learning experiences.

Teachers will have opportunities to work through various literacy strategies, collaborate with colleagues, and learn implementation practices to support success. Choose from or over 20 available literacy practice topics to create a professional development plan!

Fountas & Pinnell Classroom Instructional Contexts Courses

Instructional Context courses aim to meet the District's general learning goals while addressing the unique needs of educators. Heinemann instructional coaches address district-specific objectives by offering targeted strategies and resources for engaging and meaningful instruction.

These in-person or live online courses provide tools and strategies to deepen educator knowledge and use of each Professional Learning Plan context to support teacher and student success in the classroom. Each session focuses on key mathematical concepts and skills that are essential for student success, fostering a comprehensive understanding of the curriculum.

In-Person Literacy Courses

This in-person 6-hour professional learning session offers a comprehensive overview of the Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System, 3rd Edition (Grades K-8, Levels A-Z). Teachers will learn how to utilize the Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment Systems (BAS) to assess students’ independent and instructional reading levels. This approach allows for one-on-one observation of reading behaviors, fosters in-depth comprehension discussions beyond simple retelling, and supports informed instructional decisions. Participants will discover how to administer, score, evaluate, and interpret results from the BAS System. Additionally, they will explore strategies for using this data, along with The Fountas & Pinnell Literacy Continuum, to enhance instruction during whole-class, small-group, and individual teaching opportunities.

Live Online Literacy Courses

An engaging professional learning series of 6, 1-hour live online sessions is focused on the Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System, 3rd Edition, for students in Grades K-8 (Levels A-Z). This series enhances educators capabilities to effectively assess and understand students' reading abilities. Participants will engage in hands-on experiences to conduct individual assessments, facilitate meaningful discussions about comprehension, and make informed instructional decisions based on assessment data. The sessions will cover the administration, scoring, and analysis of the BAS assessments, along with assessing the results. Educators will learn to integrate these insights with The Fountas & Pinnell Literacy Continuum, to enhance teaching practices in whole-class, small-group, and individual settings.


Leveled Literacy Intervention Courses

Equip teachers with essential skills to elevate their effectiveness in implementing LLI. Course sessions are designed to meet the unique needs of educators and students using a structured framework developed to address the district’s general learning goals.

In-Person Literacy Courses

Engage your teachers with 3 days of in-person sessions where they will learn to successfully implement LLI. In these sessions participants will develop a thorough understanding of the lesson framework, assessing, and grouping students, teaching within LLI lessons, utilizing the prompting guide, understanding the demands of text, and documenting progress. Plus, they will deepen their understanding of research-based techniques to help accelerate progress for struggling readers. Available for each of the three primary grade LLI systems, Grades K-2 and LLI Intermediate Systems, Grades 3-5.

Live Online Literacy Courses

Provide teachers with specific strategies to address the needs of struggling readers with 18 hours of convenient online intensive training on LLI systems. In addition to an overview of the components and implementation of the LLI Systems, this professional development delves into the LLI lesson framework and routines with a focus on reading, writing, phonics/word study, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Available for each of the three primary grade LLI Systems, Grades K-2 and LLI Intermediate Systems, Grades 3-5
