In this interactive session, participants will watch sample video lessons to observe and evaluate student talk. Participants will analyze samples of writing about reading to determine individual student strengths and needs. Participants will also analyze reading/running records to understand how individual students process text. Participants will use their observations and analysis to locate specific teaching goals from The Literacy Continuum.

Learning Goals

Participants will:

  • Explore instructional contexts where students talking about reading can be observed.
  • Use The Literacy Continuum along with the Systems of Strategic Actions as a lens to observe and evaluate student talk.
  • Analyze students' writing about reading.
  • Use The Literacy Continuum to explore behaviors and understandings to notice, teach, and support across instructional contexts to inform writing about reading.
  • Analyze students' reading through the use of reading/running records.
  • Use The Literacy Continuum to explore behaviors and understanding to notice, teach and support across instruction contexts to inform instruction.
