Overview

Reading minilessons form the "glue" that connects literacy learning across the day, makes it explicit, and turns learning over to students to apply independently. The Reading Minilessons Book (Fountas & Pinnell Classroom™) serves as a guide to a meaningful, systematic approach to joyful literacy learning across multiple instruction contexts. This four-part webinar series will help teachers develop the ability to choose and teach appropriate minilessons based on their observations of student reading behaviors. Participants will learn about four types of minilessons and explore how umbrellas and minilessons are organized across the year.

Learning Objectives

During this webinar series, participants will:

  • Explore the role of reading minilessons in literacy learning
  • Explore how umbrellas and minilessons are organized
  • Explore four types of minilessons: Management, Literary Analysis, Strategies and Skills, and Writing About Reading
  • Explore how to plan for reading minilessons
  • Explore how observation and assessment inform teacher decision making around minilessons
  • Explore reading minilessons within a multitext approach to literacy learning across multiple instructional contexts
