The millions of ELLs nationwide present a unique instructional challenge—ESL/EFL Teaching helps meet that challenge. Teachers will be introduced to current research as well as proven practices for teaching ELLs. Supported by the know-how of the Freemans, teachers will discover why meaningful content is vital to connecting with second language learners, and, through hands-on activities, they'll learn the essential principles of ESL/EFL success.
This School-Based Seminar will help teachers build an awareness of the most current ESL/EFL research and methods, find new opportunities for ELLs to engage with meaningful content, identify seven essential principles for ELL instruction, and understand how those principles support teaching and learning in any classroom.
Course Goals:
- Review current methods and materials for teaching a second language in ways most consistent with current research knowledge
- Build an understanding of the importance of teaching language through meaningful content
- Engage in activities that will lead to a solid understanding of Freeman & Freeman's Seven Essential Principles for English Language Learners.
