Date and Time

One half-day workshop from 9:30am to 12:30pm Eastern Time (ET).

  • Thursday, July 7, 2022

Please note that this virtual half-day workshop is scheduled for Eastern Time (ET). If you are in a different time zone, please plan your schedule accordingly.

The first four weeks of the school year are critical in building a vibrant classroom community of student independence, confidence, and vision. Focusing on our work from both 180 Days and Four Essential Studies, we will share how we are currently planning the first month of the 2022-23 school year. Teachers will leave this workshop with a framework for planning, the mini-lessons we use, the book club and writing notebook practices we value, and the assessments needed to inform our instruction.

Learning Objectives

  • Learn how to establish classroom conditions which develop an interdependent community of learners
  • Create daily lessons in reading and writing which move students from compliance to engagement
  • Use digital storytelling to assess student independence and decision making
  • Prioritize teacher modeling and side-by-side feedback
