Do The Math "Getting Started" PD (also available as a Full-Day Seminar) develops teachers' understanding of the Do The Math program and how it builds students' numerical reasoning. Teachers learn how to support the development of students' whole number and fraction understanding and skills, as they spend time exploring the program and preparing for their first week of instruction.

Each professional learning offering starts with an overview of Do The Math and its origins, and participants are introduced to the program's "Professional Learning Guide," which is a valuable resource to use in their classrooms. Participants also are introduced to the 13 Do The Math modules, component teacher and student materials, and highlights of the program's digital experience.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

  • Develop an understanding of the Do The Math program design and how it supports students' numerical reasoning.
  • Investigate the print and digital components of Do The Math for the purpose of effectively implementing the program.
  • Prepare to teach the first week of Do The Math.

Time Requirement

A half-day seminar schedule is two and a half (2.5) hours of meeting time.

Participant Group Size

The ideal maximum number of participants for this seminar is 30. Larger group needs will be accommodated on a case-by-case basis.
