Overview

Interactive read-aloud promotes the joy of reading, expands children's vocabulary, and increases their ability to think, talk, and write about texts that fully engage their interest. Participants in this four-part series will learn more about the values of this powerful instructional context, how to use The Fountas & Pinnell Literacy Continuum to observe children for evidence of their reading behaviors, and how to use the Fountas & Pinnell ClassroomInteractive Read-Aloud Collection to engage children's thinking through high-quality texts.

During this series, participants will:

  • consider the values of interactive read-aloud
  • develop an understanding of reading as a complex process
  • use The Fountas & Pinnell Literacy Continuum as a tool for observing students, identifying teaching goals, and developing an understanding of the characteristics of texts
  • reflect on the teacher's and students' roles before, during, and after reading
  • explore how to select and sequence texts around a connecting idea, central theme, or study of a particular author, illustrator, or genre
  • learn how to plan for meaningful conversations that use talk as a tool to expand thinking about texts
  • become familiar with the Fountas & Pinnell ClassroomInteractive Read-Aloud Collection resources.

Presenter

Chrisie Moritz is a Fountas and Pinnell-trained consultant. She is a National Board certified literacy coach in Fairfax County, Virginia where she teaches, facilitates professional development sessions, and coaches other educators. She presents at conferences and consults with school districts across the country on various topics related to literacy instruction. Chrisie co-authored the book Powerful Book Introductions: Leading with Meaning to Promote Thinking (2017) with Kathleen Fay and Suzanne Whaley. She has taught at Title I schools in North Carolina and Virginia and served as a Reading Recovery® teacher, Literacy Collaborative District Trainer, and adjunct professor at East Carolina University.

Classroom teachers, administrators, curriculum coordinators, literacy specialists, and staff developers.

Tuition

The cost of this Webinar Series is $199.00 per person. If you register a group of three to nine people at the same time there is a discounted rate of $189.00 per person. When signing up ten or more participants at one time, please call in advance for large group discount pricing. This includes a certificate of attendance for .5 CEU credits equivalent to 5 class participation hours. Tuition includes access to the recorded webinar sessions for 30 days from the date of purchase.

Requirement

Webinar participants are strongly encouraged to have The Fountas & Pinnell Literacy Continuum, Expanded Edition, to fully participate in this webinar series.

Confirmation

Within one business day of enrolling in this Webinar Series participants will receive a confirmation email from Heinemann. The email will serve as your receipt for the webinar and will include a link to the recorded webinar series.
