The Comprehension Toolkit is an intensive K-6 course of study designed to help students understand, respond to, and learn from nonfiction text. With the teaching and learning focus on comprehension strategies, the Toolkit provides a foundation for developing independent readers and learners across the curriculum and throughout the school year. Contexts for Learning Math

If you are in need of improving the content knowledge of teachers and the performance of students in the areas of mathematics, grades K-6, you may want to consider this classroom tested resource that we believe will fit your needs.

Contexts for Learning Mathematics is a series of 24 units on the topics of number, operation, and algebra, K-6, developed by teacher educators, mathematicians, classroom teachers, and researchers from Mathematics in the City and the Freudenthal Institute. The materials can be used as either supplemental or replacement units. There are three units at each of six grade spans (K-1, 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5, and 5-6) that consist of two-week sequences of investigations, games, routines, and minilessons designed to support development on key topics such as place value, subtraction, multiplication, algebra, and fractions. There is also 7one resource unit for each grade span that includes a compilation of minilessons or games that can be used throughout the year.

Interactive Read-Alouds

An Interactive Read-aloud with a Clear Instructional Focus Lifts Student Achievement. Standards that are commonly held across many states are the driving force throughout these lessons. Each lesson, with its accompanying mentor text and Booklinks, is designed to help children see a standard in action within the supportive and safe context of a readaloud. Teacher think-aloud language and questions to stimulate quality partner conversations are all focused on the target standard so that children can listen to the teacher applying the standard, then share their thinking with a partner. This process is repeated with each mentor text as teacher modeling and guided practice are central support systems across the many books in which children apply the target standard.

The components at each level include:

  • The Interactive Read-Alouds book of lessons contains over 60 standards-based lessons designed around children's classics with Share the Reading texts and Readers Theater scripts for each lesson.Read-aloud lessons are grouped into six standards-based strands: comprehension, story elements, vocabulary/literary language, literary elements and devices, genre, and writing traits.
  • The Interactive Read-Alouds Teacher's Guide outlines the thinking behind Interative Read-Alouds and describes how to apply the strategies in your own classroom.

Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) by Fountas & Pinnell

Leveled Literacy Intervention

Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) is a small group, supplementary literacy intervention designed for students who find reading and writing difficult. These students are the lowest achievers in literacy at their grade level and are not receiving another literacy intervention. Through systematically designed lessons and original, engaging leveled books, LLI learning in both reading and writing, while helping students expand their knowledge of language and words and how they work. The goal of LLI is to bring students to grade level achievement in reading.

Units of Study (UOS) Reading by Lucy Calkins & Colleagues

Units of Study Reading

Units of Study for Teaching Reading is designed to provide state-of-the-art tools and methods to help students move up the ladder of text complexity and build foundational reading skills and strategies. Instruction in the Units of Study for Teaching Reading, K-5 is organized around four grade-specific units of study at each level and a book of suggestions for adapting your teaching based on your students' abilities and needs. In grades K-2, units include one foundational unit and three other units to address reading fiction and informational texts. In grades 3-5, units include two units in reading fiction and two in reading informational texts. Each unit includes approximately 17-21 sessions, each representing a day in the reading workshop. The series contains assessment through learning progressions and uses self-monitoring strategies to set students on trajectories of growth.
