Summer School Units of Study Curriculum

The Summer School Units of Study provide six weeks of engaging learning that reviews key topics from the previous grade level units to prepare kids for the year ahead. These units offer the newest researched-based methods for teaching phonemic awareness, assessment-based decoding, vocabulary, knowledge generation, argument, and more. The units are designed specifically for teachers with a background in workshop teaching to help them bring the responsive tools and methods they use all year long into their summer school classrooms.

The Summer School Curriculum is an all-digital resource that includes videotaped minilessons to help teachers launch powerful reading and writing workshops that will inspire students’ joy and confidence while accelerating their growth. Teachers may choose to use the minilesson videos to teach directly, or as professional learning to guide their own teaching of minilessons.

Transition to Algebra

Developed by Education Development Center (EDC), Transition to Algebra is a classroom resource that approaches algebra instruction differently. Instead of re-teaching the same algebra curriculum in the same way to struggling students, Transition to Algebra uses logic puzzles, problems, and explorations to help teachers uniquely build students' mathematical ways of thinking. Units can be arranged in various configurations to meet the needs of any summer school classroom, engaging students with highly visual, hands-on lessons.
