Author-Guided Course Overview:

Beliefs and knowledge about equity are not enough. Choosing to be more invested in doing, versus knowing, is what we need to create real change. That is why Cornelius Minor wrote this author-guided course.

These last few years have been difficult. And, unfortunately, we have become used to these extremes. They do not alarm us anymore. The difficulties associated with teaching have become "normal."

This is infinitely frustrating. Because it is NOT normal for kids or schools to be in frequent crisis. It is NOT normal for policies to change week to week. It is NOT normal for children to harbor a profound distaste for learning or for adults to teach while attempting to hide their frustrations or their fears. These used to be the things we would discuss after they happened every few years. Now, we have no words for them because they happen with such regularity.

If you are an educator in any role, in any setting, looking for the tools to move from outrage, concern, or apathy to action, you will find them in this author-guided course.

Throughout this course, you will get to observe Cornelius' work with one school's staff and students and see how values translate into action to improve the educational experience. During alternating live and asynchronous sessions with Cornelius, participants will learn to name challenges, explore change-making protocols, and face adversity through differentiated content and candid conversations.

By the end of this course, Cornelius hopes participating educators will have the tools not only to theorize equity, but to fight for the kinds of changes that need to be made.

Course Objectives:

  • Embrace the idea of institutional flexibility
  • Explore literacy as a tool for social justice
  • Employ operational empathy
  • Engage in the study of children as a core practice that leads to systemic change
  • Apply protocols that lead to disruption
  • Develop an understanding of disruption as longitudinal and ongoing, not reactive
