About the TCRWP Virtual Summer School Curriculum

These all-new, standards-based—and joyful—summer school units/modules were developed around what we observe to be the most important needs of students as they emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic and prepare for the new school year. We offer the units in a suggested sequence, but, because we know that some schools and districts will wish to plan their own sequence, each module can be purchased a-la-carte as well. See the “Subscription Terms and Conditions” section on this webpage for more information.

About this Unit/Module

While this unit should be used with any intermediate fiction unit, we strongly recommend that you pair them with the Reading Series Fiction unit as part of your summer school curriculum plan. This pairing will allow readers to work in close alliance with TCRWP reading coaches during work time. Videos feature TCRWP coaches who engage individual readers or reading partners, give invitations and feedback to support students in doing the work that each specific series (and band of text complexity) requires, and hold students accountable for the reading work they are doing.

These video tutorials introduce specific series books across levels K, L, M, and N, and help readers know the important work they will do inside that series. The TCRWP instructor acts as a proficient partner, coaching the reader in reading strategies, and in places to stop and jot, as they move across each book. You may choose to pair students up, so they can read these series and engage with these tutorials in partnerships, so they have more reasons to jot and share their jottings, and meaningful opportunities to talk to each other about their books and their reading work. But you can also set students up independently.
