Workshop:
Launching a New School Year: Intentional Planning for Readers and Writers, Gr. 5-12 / A Virtual Half-Day Workshop

Presented by Kelly Gallagher and Penny Kittle
One half-day workshop from 9:30am to 12:30pm Eastern Time (ET). Please note that this virtual half-day workshop is scheduled for Eastern Time (ET). If you are in a different time zone, please plan your schedule accordingly. The first four weeks of the school year are critical in building a vibrant classroom community of student independence, confidence, and vision. Focusing on our work from both 180 Days and Four Essential Studies, we will share how we are currently planning the first month of the 2022-23 school year. Teachers will leave this workshop with a framework for planning, the mini-lessons we use, the book club and writing notebook practices we value, and the assessments needed to inform our instruction. Penny Kittle and Kelly Gallagher bring decades of experience teaching to their ongoing study of creating conditions that prioritize student engagement in secondary classrooms. They are the authors of several books on adolescent literacy, including two they coauthored—180 Days and Four Essential Studies. Penny is currently teaching first year writers at Plymouth State University; Kelly is a literacy coach in the Anaheim Union High School District. They both write beside their dogs every morning, and continue to present in school districts and at conferences throughout North America and beyond. Classroom teachers of grades 5-12, literacy coaches, ELA specialists, curriculum coordinators, and administrators. The cost of this virtual half-day workshop is $79.00 per person. Tuition also includes access to the recorded workshop for 30 days, which begins on the date you receive the link. Please note, access cannot be extended past 30 days. Registrants will receive multiple emails from Heinemann, including enrollment confirmation, which also serves as your tuition receipt and contains some basic instructions. If you have not received your confirmation email within 48 hours of your registration, please contact us at workshops@heinemann.com or 800-541-2086, ext. 1151.
