Date and Time

One full-day workshop from 10:00am to 5:00pm Eastern Time (ET).

  • Wednesday, April 6, 2022

Please note that this virtual full-day workshop is scheduled for Eastern Time (ET). If you are in a different time zone, please plan your schedule accordingly.

In her book Growing Language and Literacy, Andrea shares how to help move English learners through the five stages of language development. In this all-day online session, she will highlight key strategies that focus on equitable language and literacy development practices. Participants will leave this session with strategies and resources aligned to three evidence-based, equity-oriented approaches to serving the needs of multilingual learners: an assets-based philosophy; integrated content and language instruction; and culturally and linguistically sustaining instructional and assessment practices.

Learning Objectives

  • Explore three overarching principles of contemporary pedagogy for the sake of English learners
  • Learn how to provide ELs with varied and meaningful learning experiences for understanding, analyzing, and using academic language
  • Discuss scaffolds that support language and literacy development across core content areas
  • Apply select strategies to their own instructional context
