Benchmark Assessment System - Coding, Scoring, Analyzing and Assessing

DownloadRegister Now

This webinar series is designed to support teachers as they learn to administer the Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System so that they can reliably and systematically match students' instructional and independent reading abilities to the F&P Text Level Gradient™.

Through demonstration and hands-on practice, participants will learn to analyze results of the assessment and use them to plan power-packed instruction that cater to students' strengths and needs.

The following is a description of the learning objectives to be met within each session of this series.

Session 1 - Getting Started and an Introduction to Coding Reading Behaviors: We will begin our work together with an overview of the Benchmark Assessment System components. After familiarizing ourselves with the system, we will begin to learn how to code reading behaviors.

Session 2 - Coding, Scoring, and Analyzing Reading Behaviors: In session two, we will continue our work on coding reading behaviors and go beyond it to score and analyze our results. We will also learn how to evaluate students' oral reading fluency.

Session 3 - Assessing Comprehension and Consolidating Assessment Results: In this session, we will consider the comprehension conversation as well as writing about reading in determining how students comprehended what was read. We will then pull all assessment measures together to summarize results.

Session 4 - Using Assessment to Inform Instruction: In our final session, we will consider how to use assessment results to guide decisions about grouping students, selecting texts, and selecting goals for instruction.
