We are beginning our second year using LLI for Tier II. Are we supposed to begin this school year where we left off three months ago or are we suppose to reassess the students again?

You should reassess the students at the beginning of the year.

Some children participate in reading programs during the summer at the public library and read at home. For the children who do no book reading, they may be doing other reading -- even if it is with their video games. Children change in 3 months, and it is important to reassess. If there is a new teacher the next year, he or she will certainly want to obtain the valuable information about a students' processing in the one-to-one setting. You will have one of the best sources of information about where to start since you used LLI the previous year.

We hope this helps!

I completely agree, but the debat is over time. Begin the intervention the second week of school where we left off in May to save time. I can understand that persepective as well. Any advice?

The rationale for reassessing remains; however, as a district you can make the decision to continue where you left off in May.

Reassessing would be time well spent because you will have the opportunity to observe the student in a one to one setting and perhaps learn something new about your student that may help with their acceleration or may help with regrouping.
